How To Choose An Elvis Tribute

By Essie Osborn

John Lennon famously once said that before Elvis there was nothing. He is one of the most influential figures in the genre of rock and roll and indeed the pop music culture in general. His premature and tragic death has added to the mystique and performers that can do an Elvis tribute are very much sought after.

Like a lot of great performers there are a number of different eras. There was the early performer. This was the man who performed at Sun Records with other influential rockers like Jerry Lee Lewis. This performer was the threatening and dangerous rock and roller that got his gyrating hips censored on the Ed Sullivan show.

However a lot of people associate The King with his Vegas comeback show. This was the man who confidently strode in the white rhinestone jumpsuit. He flung himself around with incredible energy, showing to a world that was starting to forget him that he was a star and ensured pop culture immortality.

However when people tend to think of Elvis they tend to associate him with the Vegas era. Even people who are not aware of his music will know the rhinestone jumpsuit, the big sunglasses and the karate chops in the middle of the chorus of Suspicious Minds. Arguably this is the kind of impersonator you get for people who may not necessarily be familiar with the pre army incarnation.

It should also be noted that some entertainers have other skills. They may be able to pour cocktails and serve drinks. Others may be able to perform magic or make balloon animals for children. They can often provide a little bit of extra added value and some unexpected additional entertainment.

There is also the issue of the skills of the performer. You need to check their level of experience. Ideally you want someone who is a recognised tribute act as they will often have honed their performance for a number of years. Someone who has entered a wide number of competitions is also likely to have the passion necessary to get the best performance.

This is why it is important to meet impersonators in person. While videos can show them at their best you need to talk to them. Explain to them what you want for the event and see if they have the kind of skills and experience you want. They should be willing to answer any questions and go into detail about what they can do for you and how they can tailor their performance to your needs.

You can find numerous impersonators online. Some will be through agencies and others will represent themselves. Whether through an agency or sought independently you should see them in person so you can discuss your requirements and find out about what they charge. For example you should check to see if travel costs and insurance will be included and how long they will stay at your event. With the right approach you will find the best impersonator for your event.
