Media has made entertainment so valuable to us that we make it part of our everyday lives. We have even gone so far as to take the things that should only be used as a distraction and turn them into funny t-shirts for us to wear. Popular culture has taken over, and it's probably too late to ever go back.
We may not all agree on what type of music we like, but we all like music. Whether you listen to rap or country, music is a big part of everyone's life. The least influential media category in this group are video games. Video games have been building a following since the first console was released in the 80's. There have been entire generations growing up with video games, and you would surprised at how many households use games as their primary form of entertainment. It wasn't until the past couple of years that we've seen a big surge in funny t-shirts about games, which may be a sort of litmus test as to their popularity.
You only have to look at funny t-shirts to get a judge of what movies, television, music, and games are the most popular at any given time. Media has a strong influence on us all, even if we're aware of it. If some show that I love is mentioned in passing, I will spend time talking about it with a neighbor. I'm not sure if pop culture is a negative or positive thing on our society, but I do know that there is no way we'll ever be rid of it.
